Mānoa Honey & Mead, 930 Palm Pl, Wahiawa, HI

Details

Once upon a time we were hunters and gatherers...

Join Yuki Uzuhashi, owner of Mānoa Honey & Mead, for a hands-on, experimental culinary workshop with bee larvae*. Used in traditional and now, an alternative nutritient source in many parts of the world, this workshop will flip your perception towards a much-hyped resource. Bee larvae offers an alternative source for proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and contains various amino and fatty acids, as well as minerals and vitamins. Come join this super rare occasion, a once-in-a-lifetime experience and learn about beekeeping and the future of food.

Your day will look like:

  1. Visit the apiary and harvest drone bee larvae
  2. Bring bee larvae back to the shop and start your culinary adventure
  3. Enjoy a grazing "larvae" lunch with mead tasting

Your ticket includes:

  • Guided tour through apiary & culinary workshop
  • Bee protective gear during the apiary tour & harvesting
  • Light grazing lunch & refreshments
  • 6 varietal mead tasting** (including our two new releases!)
  • One bottle of crafted mead from the Ancient Art of Mead Making workshop (ready for pick-up toward end of the year)

Workshop Details:

Gather at our Honey House at 930 Palm Place in Wahiawa before heading out to our nearby apiary. Here, you'll see our bees in-action and a select few will have the opportunity to harvest drone bee larvae directly from the hives! We'll take your freshly harvested bee larvae frames back to the Honey House, where Yuki will guide you in extracting and lead you on a gastronomic journey you've never experienced before. You'll have the chance to cook and sample bee larvae in multiple forms, while broadening your knowledge on the alternative possibilities of nutritional sources.

At the end, we'll come together over a light grazing lunch with our Ancient Art of Mead Making Workshop and share the bounty of each other's creations.

Once the fermentation process is complete for the hand-crafted mead made in the Ancient Art of Mead Making Workshop, we'll invite you back for bottling and you'll take home a bottle to enjoy on your own or share with loved ones as a gift for the holidays.
